Report: Canucks’ Brock Boeser to miss Game 7 against Oilers with blood clotting issue

The Vancouver Canucks will be without one of the leading playoff goalscorers, Brock Boeser, Monday night for Game 7 against the Oilers.

First reported by Irfaan Gaffar, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman added that Boeser is dealing with a non-life-threatening blood clotting issue.

Boeser, 26, has been a key player for the Canucks this post-season scoring seven goals and 12 points in 12 games. His goal total leads all Canucks players, while his point total is tied with linemate J.T. Miller.

The winger has remained healthy all season, missing just one regular-season game. It was a significant bounce-back campaign for Boeser, who scored a career-high 40 goals and 73 points, well up from the 18 goals and 55 points he accumulated in the 2022-23 campaign.

Boeser’s absence will leave a significant hole in the Canucks’ top six to fill. He had been very productive against the Oilers through the first six games of the series, racking up three goals and as many assists. His performance in Game 3, where he scored two goals and added an assist, was a key reason Vancouver could hold onto a 3-2 win.

In Saturday night’s Game 6 loss to the Oilers, he took 19 shifts, skating 18 minutes and 40 seconds, but didn’t register a shot on goal or a point in the game. He ended the night a -2.

Drafted by the Canucks in the first round of the 2015 draft, Boeser has accumulated 179 goals and 384 points in 479 regular season games. His status as a playoff point performer has been evident this year, but when the Canucks went on their run through the qualifying round and into the second round in the 2019-20 season, he racked up four goals and 11 points in 17 games.

Game 7 between the Oilers and Canucks is set for Monday night at 6 p.m. PST.
