Browns’ David Njoku is working on one part of his game the most to hurt the rest of the NFL
Thomas Shea-USA TODAY Sports

The 2023 season was a special one for Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku where he finally reached his potential and showed that he is one of the better tight ends in the National Football League.

Njoku went out and had a career-high 882 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 16 games played. The season that Njoku had was good enough to earn Pro Bowl honors for the first time. It must be pointed out that Njoku played through severe burns from a fire accident and was out there at times when he shouldn’t have been.

Now heading into the 2024 season with hopes of building off of 2023, the Browns and Njoku want to take a step forward as a whole. The talented tight end already knows one part of his game that he can improve to become a more dominant player. Njoku broke it down on a recent episode of Unleashed on Cleveland Browns’ YouTube.

"The number one focal point this year is speed,” Njoku said. “I'm trying to lose a couple of pounds to be lighter and more explosive. This year, it's Speed Kills."

You can watch the episode in full below which portrayed who Njoku is off of the field when he doesn’t have pads on. Njoku is who you expect, a football addict who is always working to improve himself and his game. He was very open with what Cleveland has been for him since he was 20 years old entering the league.

Njoku has always been a run-after-the-catch threat with the ball in his hands. He showed that last season down the stretch when he was a big target for Joe Flacco. The Browns now need Njoku to build that connection with Deshaun Watson, who has only played in 12 games over two seasons in Cleveland.

Cleveland very well could make Njoku an even bigger part of the offense after what he showed last season when he wasn’t even 100 percent healthy. Njoku is already one of the most athletic tight ends and brings good blocking ability that makes him one of the most complete players at the position.

If Njoku can add more speed to his frame he is going to be an even bigger issue for opposing teams to try to defend on the gridiron.
